Description
1942 WW2 Beechcraft Aviation embroidered "Busy Bee" patch designed by Disney. Approx. 5 1/4" x 3 1/2". Small mesh backing. I don't believe it's ever been sewn to anything or used. No holes or tears.Walter and Olive Ann Beech owned the Beechcraft Aviation, which was then located in Wichita, KS, known as the "Air Capital" of the world because so many aviation companies were located there. In 1942, the army ordered the first of 270 modified Beech Staggerwings for service in WW2. At the same time, the Beeches commissioned the Walt Disney Co. to create a mascot. The result was the Beechcraft Busy Bee.
A company publication describes the Busy Bee Award. It was "created by Walt Disney especially for Beech s a badge of merit and honor to be awarded to employees who demonstrate the qualities of high efficiency, interest in his work and in training for further advancement, cheerful cooperation with others nd the constant determination to "Kill 'em" with production."
