ON AUGUST 22, 1940, CONGRESS CHARTERED THE DEFENCE PLANT CORPORATION (DPC) IN ANTICIPATION OF WAR HOSTILITIES (WORLD WAR 2) AND ASSIGNED IT THE TASK OF EXPANDING PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES FOR MILITARY EQUIPMENT. ITS CHARTER PERMITTED BOTH THE BUILDING AND EQUIPPING OF NEW FACILITIES AND THE EXPANSION OF EXISTING STRUCTURES. PHOTOS ARE PART OF DESCRIPTION.
IN JULY 1945 THE DPC WAS DISSOLVED AND ITS FUNCTIONS, ASSETS, AND LIABILITIES WERE MERGED WITH THE RFC (RECONSTRUCTION FINANCE CORPORATION) OFFICE OF DEFENCE PLANTS WAS ESTABLISHED TO LIQUIDATE DPC ASSETS.
The Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC) was a GOVERNMENT CORPORATION in the United States that operated between 1932 and 1957 which provided financial support to state and local governments and made loans to banks, railroads, mortgage associations and other businesses. Its aim was to boost the country’s confidence and help banks return to performing daily functions after the start of the GREAT DEPRESSION It continued to operate through the NEW DEAL where it became more prominent and through WORLD II. It was disbanded in 1957 when the US government felt it no longer needed to stimulate LENDING.
