    Description

    Here’s an Antique Bronze Match Holder/Ashtray from the New Years’ Day 1913 grand opening of the New York Biltmore Hotel. The bottom edge of the decorative lip surrounding the tray is stamped with its maker, the Gorham Co. On the opposite side from the makers’ mark the following is inscribed: “The Biltmore 1913 02334”. I have provided pictures which clearly show the markings detailed above. The very ornate strike box or match holder is engraved beautifully with the early Biltmore Hotel “B” logo. I have included with this sale a vintage box of “Haldens Stikker” red sun matches. Looking at the last picture in my description you can see how the match box slides into the strike holder. It’s measurements are approximately 5 ¾” long by 4 ¼” wide by 3 ½” tall. In 2013 this antique Biltmore bid of history turns 100 years old. Considering its age, it’s in very good used condition.
