    Description

    Rare antique 1899 advertising and commemorative souvenir match safe.  Celluloid wrap over metal with a striker on the bottom.  One side features an elk and reads "BPOE 35th Annual Session St. Louis. Mo June 20-25 1899".  One the other side is the Pabst Beer logo and reads "Milwaukee bids you Welcome".  Marked along one edge "The Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark, NJ".  BPOE stands for "Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks" AKA the Elks Lodge and is a fraternal order founded in 1868.
    Antique item in good overall condition with vintage patina and tarnish, a strong hinge, and no dents or breaks.  Please see photos.
