    Description

    Antique, c. 1885, American silver plated match box, marked GORHAM & CO. 055 and with anchor symbol within a 5 sided box.  Rare box, entitled French translate "Sugar Grains" wood crate with dog figural handle lid.  Good detail.  Inside of lid has a textured match strike surface.  Box with lid on measures approximately 3 3/4" x 2" x 2 1/4"H.  Interior of box is 3 3/8" x 1 3/4" x 7/8"Deep.  Weighs  1lb. 6ozs. (heavy, for it's size).  Found one like box in the RISD Museum.  Expected wear and patina, consistent with age and use.  In good condition.  12 photos are a part of this description.
