ANTIQUE HANGING MATCH HOLDER
Wonderful antique Victorian hanging milk glass match holder measuring 3" tall and 2" wide. Emboss marked FOR BURNT MATCHES on one side, the reverse is decorated with an Indian head in full feather head dress - sides bear crossed matched and crossed long pipes - bottom has a flower head pattern. These were intended to be hung underneath an oil lamp so that once the wick was lit, the match could be disposed of easily - there are two very fine piercings on the top edge for threading a chain or similar hanger. I have also see then suspended by wood burning stoves.
Condition is minty with no stains, cracks, hairlines, chips, discoloration or damage. An elegant Victorian match holder from an era when there was an accessory for every need - nice addition to any home, collection or display!
