    Description

16-field Beauty and the Beast (1991) movie production background, with a Disney created matching cel overlay. The scene shows Monsieur D'Arque, the insane asylum warden, looking his sinister best with a horse-drawn cage and a mob of torch-wielding villagers behind him. He came to take away Belle's father as part of Gaston's scheme to make Belle marry him. D'Arque was played by Tony Jay, who a few years later won great acclaim for his performance of Judge Frollo in the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Since the moving images in Beauty & the Beast were done by computer, no production cels from Beauty & the Beast were ever created. The closest thing you could get was a Production Background with a cel created by Disney from the original drawing. Many of these setups were sold through a Sotheby's auction in 1992 that featured over 200 Beauty & the Beast original backgrounds with studio prepared cels. However, other setups were sold in Disney Stores or retail outlets within the parks. This setup was originally sold in Disney World during the 20th anniversary celebration of the park in 1991-1992. Cel and background are both in excellent condition.
