Dungeons & Dragons Rulebook Basic D&D 3rd printing December 1979 Holmes Blue Book.
This is just the rulebook - no box. This version comes with the chits to substitute for polyhedral dice. (Did anyone ever actually use those?) The chits are uncut and in excellent condition. The book in general is in excellent condition, with
no writing or underlining or markings at all
. It shows its age in rust marks on the staples, some light marks from storage with other printed books on the back, some warping and a dent in the foredge, and several small dents in the front cover from having been stored in a box with dice (see oblique photo for the sort of dents I'm talking about in the cover).
This is the version of D&D I learned with, though the first copy I owned was the Basic Red Box edition a few years later. I bought this on a nostalgic whim from a garage sale in the 1990s, and it's in far better condition than the books I (or anyone I know) actually used. It has been stored in a box with modules ever since I owned it.
Not pristine, but very worthwhile for collectors or retrogamers looking for a taste of the early history of the hobby, or for that taste of nostalgia.
