  • Condition: Very Good-Excellent overall vint cond: There are five #2 incised numeric stamped, pressed markings on both backs of the ears, 1 on the front right side & 1 on the back leg & another under the belly. This lg, monumental, 21" L x 18" in H, early 20th c, pre-WWII Indian cast bronze figurative metal sculpture of an elephant w/trunk raised & open mouth, in some cultures, including the Chinese, symbolizes good luck. This very lg cast bronze, metal elephant is without any kind of visible, noticeable damage, such as deep abrasions or scuffs, dents or dings to any of its remarkable, highly detailed & sgraffito incised surfaces. The bronze color is variegated & also fluctuates over the entire surface of the form, varying from a greenish-gray or charcoal black, to complex hues of yellow umber & burnt umber, embedded in the overall, naturalistic, dark grayish coloring of the elephant. It's highly animated & was done w/a particular care & reverence, consistent w/Indian culture toward this creature.
