FANTASIA 2000 MICKEY & YEN SID "A LESSON
LEARNED" HAND PAINTED LIMITED EDTION ANIMATION CEL- RARE #d 132/300-
SIGNED BY JOE GRANT - MUSEUM QUALITY ARCHIVAL MATT AND FRAMING- Image alone
is 18" by 14" and overall with frame is 28" X 23.5". This
piece is from our personal collection and we have had it since it was
originally issued. The framing was done professionally by one of the five
people who at the time were advising Disney on animation artwork. As stated
in the certificate of authenticity that is included with this piece: "
This is a special limited-edition, 132/300, hand painted, ink-enhanced, cel
set-up excerpted from the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" section of Walt
Disney's Fantasia and from Walt Disney Pictures' Fantasia 2000. This image,
"A Lesson Learned" is from original animation drawings from
Sequence 7, scenes 87 and 88 of the animated feature. After causing an
enchanted tempest, Mickey Mouse returns to the mystical sorcerer Yen Sid, and
timidly returns the borrowed magic cap to his disappointed master. The Walt
Disney Studios has created this character image using traditional animation
techniques. The original animation drawings were adapted for this composition
and transferred to acetate cels by a special six step xerographic process.
Artists of the Walt Disney Studio Ink and Paint depatment then enhanced the
cels with 9 hand inked lines and hand-painted each of the cels in the edition
with 27 Disney-approved acrylic colors, plus 3 air brush effects and 1 dry
brush effect. Disney artists have created the background scene accompanying
this cel. It is not an original production background. However, original
layouts, sketches and frames from the film were used as reference. Color
Service has lithographically printed the resulting artwork on premium -
quality acid free paper. As a finishing touch, Joe Grant has signed each
piece in the edition to commemmorate his role in the production of the
original film segment. Mr. Grant is not the artist of he piece. This limited
edition was published by Walt Disney Art Classics in 1999. It is comprised of
a general edition of 300 numbered 1/300 , 300/300, 8 publisher's proofs,
numbered PP1/8 to PP 8/8 and 15 hors de commerce, numbered HC 1/15 to HC
15/15. The publisher approves the techniques used in the production of this
edition and the proofs thereof. Conforming to the practice of fine art
printing, the film used to create the background is destroyed when the
edition is closed. The original character drawings are archived in the Walt
Disney Animation Research Library. The adapted character drawing composition
and recreated background are archived with the publisher. No additional fine
art multiples of this image have been produced in this or any other limited
edition except only as ncessary to replace pieces in this edition that are
damaged in production or shipment, but still maintaining the stated edition
size. The adapted character drawings and recreated backgrounds may be offered
for sale by Disney at a later date."
