Figural Turkish Lady Porcelain Match Holder with Striker, 4 ½ inches high, unmarked, probably early 1900’s, probably European, tiny pinhole in left cheek minor chips and wear to paint, traces of a painted mustache and goatee that may not be original, one photo shows the match holder with matches, PLEASE NOTE that the matches DO NOT come with the piece due to restrictions on hazardous materials that cannot be sent through the US Mail, they are there for demonstration only, a molded porcelain piece with a heavy over painting of the face and costume, the striker is a layer of coarse material that has been fired onto the edge of the opening for the matches, the tiny hole in the back is to keep it from exploding in the kiln, even the bottom is painted which may be covering a makers mark, dark skinned woman wears an elaborate necklace and headpiece with a forehead band and decoration, probably from the era when Turkish and Egyptian cigarettes were all the rage, lovely.
