Unusual WW II Military Service Banner, US Homefront Memorabilia, Circular Star Plaque Honoring Service Member
This military service banner is quite different than the blue star flags seen hanging in home windows during WWII. This round plaque is made primarily of cardboard with a piece of convex glass covering the front. The circle measures 6 7/8 inches in diameter and approximately 1 inch thick at the highest curvature of the glass. A large blue star is centered in the circle with a 2 in circular cutout for the service member’s picture in the middle. A red border encircles the star with the glass on top. This is sandwiched between a 1/2 inch border of cardboard on the front and the round cardboard on the back. A slit in the middle of the back allows for a picture to be added. A metal staple in the back provides a means to hang. Here’s where I come to the one flaw; one end of the staple has worn through the cardboard to the front. It is at the very tip of the star pointed straight up. See picture. Of course, the cardboard making up this piece was once white, now darkened to tan. Otherwise this homefront memorabilia is in very good condition. A truly special piece of a remarkable time in history.  A nice way to honor your soldier from the past or present, veteran or active military.
