    This is an antique Apollinaris match holder striker most likely dates from the early to mid-1900s when these advertising items were believed to be found abundantly in bars and cafes through Europe. This piece advertises the popular German sparkling mineral water Apollinaris, ‘the Queen of Table Water,' for direct consumption and also a component in classic libations.
    Apollinaris is a German naturally sparkling mineral water (now owned by Coca-Cola), named after St Apollinaris of Ravenna, a patron saint of wine. The spring was discovered by in 1852 in Georg Kreuzberg’s vineyard, in Bad Neuenahr, Germany. Since the late 1800s, Apollinaris has gained global popularity and now is available in over 43 countries worldwide.
    Beautiful glossy ceramic, dark blue accents with white café match strike that has a ridged center and original sandpaper disc on bottom for striking the matches. This side striker has a wide circular base and a cylindrical stem at the center. In excellent condition with signs of wear, particularly minor scuffs on the bottom.
