Vintage Brass Match Safe - Wall Pocket

This was sold at an estate auction as a vintage match safe. I have researched the piece and have found this exact piece listed as a bed warmer, a wall pocket, English wall hanging, and one other calling it a match safe. To be honest, I’m not sure what it is or how it works. I feel certain it isn’t a bed warmer because there is no way to hold the coals. Clearly it was made to hang on a nail or screw with the pocket toward the wall hidden behind the decorative round front. If you know for sure what this is, please let me know.
