RARE, vintage and quite possible antique two page (makeup) layout for the beginning of "A Little Golden Book"
Sleeping Beauty
. There are three layers to this design:
top, vellum or parchment like paper with alterations/directions/instructions (a layer that could be discarded later)
middle, matte thick photo-ready plastic with targets to line up type-to-image-to-cutting
bottom, thin card stock board. Image(s) are placed on board (usually bound to the board with hot wax so it could be moved and removed without damage), with targets
The page reads as follows:
Long ago, in a faraway kingdom, a tiny princess was born. Her parents, the king and queen, named her Aurora.
Her parents announced that Aurora would one day marry young Prince Phillip. He lived in a neighboring kingdom.
The above, may or may not be how these two pages went to press/print (of course revisions could have been made). Before, word processors and all of the fancy programs we have today, making a book was quite intensive with literal cut and paste pictures and text. This is an example of how a book, none the less,

was born.
