    On December 15, 1954 Walt Disney first brought his viewers Fess Parker as Davy Crockett, the "King of the Wild Frontier”. “Born on a mountain top in Tennessee, greenest state in the land of the free, raised in the woods so he knew every tree, kilt him a bear when he was only three, Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier!" The Davy Crockett episodes were aired in 1954 & 1955 just before the grand opening of Disneyland. The shows staring Fess Parker as Davy Crockett and Buddy Epsen as Georgie Russell were such a tremendous hit they started a world wide merchandising frenzy for coonskin caps and all things “Crockett”!

    When Walt Disney opened Disneyland on July 17, 1955 on Television he had multiple Guest Celebrity Hosts including: Art Linkletter, Ronald Reagan, Bob Cummings and the Mouseketeers, however, it was TV’s Fess Parker riding a horse as Davy Crockett that led the opening day parade as the famous frontiersman!
    Fess Parker became a contract star for Disney and appeared in “The Great Locomotive Chase”, “Westward Ho,The Wagons!”, “Old Yeller”, and “The Light in the Forest”.
    In 1991, Fess Parker was named a DISNEY LEGEND and in 2004 he was honored with his own “Tribute Window” on a facade in the Frontierland section of Disneyland.
